Cooperation is the interaction process generated from relationships of acquiring common interest among individuals, teams, departments, and organizations. It has been widely believed that organizational success is largely a product of market competition and the cooperation of its partnerships within industry networks. Then, is it possible balancing competition and cooperation within an organization?
This study aims to explore how a case company employs managerial and control mechanisms to succeed in diverse international markets. Conducted via case study, data collected via depth interviews from 2011 to 2012. Drawing from an ambidextrous perspective, this study reveals that case company leverage a distinctive mix of exploration and exploitation abilities via its unique management control systems (MCS) that allow for foster and balance the culture of competition and cooperation across and within departments in its organization.
