In recent years, the market for applications of the industrial robots has been saturated when the market is limited to the following areas such as manufactures, assembly, and transportation. On the other hand, services robots can be applied in more areas such as education, entertainment, medical caring, and home service and also play important roles in promoting global economy and life quality of human beings. This research is about the robotic xylophonist. The xylophone is composed of wooden bars struck by a mallet. The certain rhyme and sound are produced to become a song. Xylophone is a popular instrument and often accompanied by playing a piano in concerts. Playing the piano and xylophone can be in harmony. Hence, they are not only solo but also grouped. Because these instruments are commonly played in some Taiwan concerts that many people are interested in, if the robots that can play the piano and xylophone can perform in those concerts, the promotion of the robotic technology is enhanced. Thus, HIWIN cooperates with departments of mechanical and electrical engineering at our institute to design the robots with its key components of mechanical devices. Orchestrated robots are developed exclusively for entertainment robots in music concerts. The entertainment robots will be multi-purposed. Moreover, image processing technology to recognize song scripts is adopted to advance the robotic system for an entertainment purpose. Besides, mechanical designs and development of electrical system for actuation and sensing of the robotic movement e.g. actuators, motors, motor drives, and controllers, are cultivated. By satisfying the demands of markets for the entertainment, the designs for development, control, and integration of the orchestrated robotic systems are planned in this paper.
