The first parts, micron and nano aluminum oxide particles were chemically modified with vinyltrimethoxy silane coupling agent, The second parts, modified micron and nano aluminum oxide were subjected to incorporate into the high density polyethylene(HDPE) matrix in series phr of 1,3,5,7 and 9. Al2O3 micron and nano particles were dispersed in the HDPE by using laboratory extruder to prepare HDPE/Al2O3 micron and nano composite polymers. The properties of micron and nano HDPE/Al2O3 composite films were measured by tensile test, abrasion test, linear thermal expansion and field emission electron probe microanalyzer(FE-EPMA) test. We find the modified micron aluminum oxide particles were easily aggregated in the polymer matrix by using FE-EPMA observation. For all the silane-modified nano aluminum oxide dispersion in the polymer matrix with different total solids contents were very compatible with polymer matrix. Therefore, nano hybrid composites had been successfully prepared.
