Description
Summary:碩士 === 銘傳大學 === 教育研究所碩士班 === 101 === The Ministry of Education in Taiwan formally implemented the new curriculum of required course “Civics and Society” with a new additional theme of “Media Literacy” to high school education in the 2010 academic year to enable students as citizens to develop an essential ability to exercise independent judgment. However, mass media has been advancing considerably due to substantial improvement in internet and satellite technology which subsequently result in many media related problems such as internet etiquette and cyberbullying that are worthy reflecting on. On the other hand, the merger of mass media and establishment of media groups in Taiwan have continued through cross-media resources integration and used almost all forms available to produce news reports which have great influences on society. Hence, this study focuses on Next TV News as a research source and surveyed 157 students in a certain high school in Taipei City using semi-open-ended qualitative questionnaires, and interviewed instructors of “Civics and Society” course and media executives to investigate media use situations and views on mass media of high school students. This study also examines whether high school students acquired the competency to analyze and judge news reports after taking “Media Literacy” course to further provide conclusions and suggestions and as well as evaluations for news media industry and mass media education. Based on the results, this study makes the following conclusions: 1. A high dependency on online social networks and media with the highest degree of trust in TV media. 2. Being skeptical about the actual media, and when news becomes entertainment, value judgment is affected. 3. News channels have not been thoroughly generalized and reinforcement is still needed for “Media Literacy” education. During the study period, the mass media environment was experiencing various upheavals. Researchers interested in conducting relevant future media literacy research can refer to observations and reflections made by the investigator of this study on the changes of mass media environment during this whole year after completing relevant research for this study.
