In this case is how pupil related problem, paternalistic leadership, and relationship with colleague effect on work motivation. The other purpose of this study is to examine the influence of teacher’s work motivation as mediator in the relationship between paternalistic leadership, pupil related problem, relationship with colleague, and teacher’s work engagement. With the school as the center of analysis, 64 schools both public and private in Semarang, Indonesia were chosen to be the population. 350 paired data were collected from headmasters and teachers in any subjects. This research found that paternalistic leadership, and relationship with colleague are positively related to work motivation, and pupil related problem is not significantly related to work motivation. Here we also found that work motivation was positively related to work engagement. We also found that work motivation was mediating the relationship between paternalistic leadership, relationship with colleague and work engagement. The result also showed that relationship with colleague has the highest level of affecting level to teachers’ work motivation and teachers’ work engagement.
