Moreover, there is also a merging demand in the stamping with HSS sheet for the industry of automotive aftermarket. This work attempted to provide the validity of replacing the mild steel sheet with the HSS sheet, in the deep drawing operation of a front fender for the automotive aftermarket. The mild steel sheet of JSC 270D was used as the baseline workpiece material and the die face was originally tended for the satisfactory forming of such material. The HSS sheet of JAC 370P was used as the testing material of higher strength and to be drawn with the same die face. Finite element software DYNAFORM was utilized to provide the distribution of thickness of the drawn workpiece. An in-field die trial-out was conducted to verify the finding of the FE simulation. Both the simulation and the die trial-out showed that rolling direction and blank holding force were influential on the drawing. The JAC 370P sheet had stronger planar anisotropy than the JSC 270D sheet, and were more susceptible to thinning in the vertical lay. The results indicated that replacing the JSC 270D sheet with the JAC 370P sheet, in the deep drawing with the die face tended for the JSC 270D sheet, was plausible, provided that both the rolling direction and blank holding force had been carefully selected.
