The purpose of the study is based on the self-directed learning to explore seniors backpacker learning process and means of independent travel, and to analysis the learning process how to effect the quality of later life of seniors backpacker.The samples of the study are searching for people who are over fifty years old from the website “Backpackers Inn” . And I selected fourteen respondents in snowball sampling According to the self-directed learning process by Tsai and Wu and the measurement elements of quality of life by Dolnicar, Yanamandram and Cliff,I make interview guide to proceed in-depth interview. And data is analyzed by using the coding analysis process of thematic analysis and Grounded theory. Finally, the study propose the self-directed learning means of independent travel process and the key factors of effecting quality of life of seniors backpacker. The respondents had several motivations to proceed independent travel and select travel sites and spots which they yearn for environment and atmosphere. And to proceed travel plan, they sought the books, searched from the internet and even travel information recommendation from others to plan. During the independent travel, the respondents made friends with others, broadened their horizons and felt the differences by adjusting mood. Those made their ability even more grow and made they fearless when they faced challenge due to encountering the difficulty. And they had also been learn and grow during independent travel. Through deeply experiences and immersive experiences, they could fully appreciate local culture and the real sense of the foreign scenes. The respondents also enjoyed each independent travel process and accumulated many travel experiences. The respondents gained by encountering from independent travel While returning the journey, Because sharing the independent travel, they also encouraged social interaction, and because completed independent travel, they felt the deep achievement and Self-realization. Life could have goals due to independent travel effecting and satisfy the life, also helped seniors improve quality of life. Research shows that through the self-directed learning , seniors volunteer to choose to participate independent travel, to plan themselves and to experience everything during the travel.
