Manufacturing costs also dropped significantly, making digital image processing technology is widely used in computer vision, automated optical inspection and measurement systems. By integrating mechanism, programming, optical measurement, control systems and other areas of technology, computer vision makes automation technology with high efficiency and stability. Machine vision method for content volume measurement of gravel truck bucket size is studied. By replacing human inspection, two CMOS cameras captured images are transferred into personal computer. Then, a three-dimensional measurement system for obtaining its characteristic points in the world coordinate system was used in order to acquire the gravel truck bucket size. In order to verify the proposed research results, a more precise measurement equipment (ATOS) is used. The measurement difference between these two methods is within 2%, which is consistent to Highway Administration for vehicle inspection requirements. The proposed measurement system is easy to set up and cheap with a certain accuracy and stability, which can effectively improve the measurement environment and reduce the need of personnel vehicle inspection.
