In the conceptual framework of this study, dynamic capability is a second-order latent variable, including three first-order latent variables: coordination/integration, learning, and reconfiguration/transformation. To assess the relationships between the latent variables, this study validated the measurement model of dynamic capability using CFA and validated the main hypotheses using a logistic regression model; research data is collected using surveys of 270 Taiwanese-owned SMEs in mainland China. Empirical results indicate that firms with a higher degree of dynamic capability will positively impact inbound open innovation strategy. Firms with richer CEO network ties, in comparison to those with fewer CEO network ties, have a higher effect of reconfiguration/transformation on the adoption of an inbound open innovation strategy. The contribution of this paper lies in explaining the role played by dynamic capability in the process of open innovation for SMEs through empirical analysis.
