As time went by, however, the urban spaces have been expanded and the needs for quality, quantity and space of “modern life” have been increased to satisfy the operation for modern society. In the old days, historic space and traditional culture usually reached compromises under the value of "modernization" to become victims. For the past few years, Taiwan has devoted to the development of cultural creative industry. Concerning the reusing of ancient monuments and existing buildings , it offers a new direction and a good chance to get the promotion and reformation. In order to pursue sustainable management, the emphasis is not only placed on restoration and preservation, but also blended with the concept of culture, design, and creative development. Avoiding the thought for confrontation of tradition and modernity, activating ancient monuments, historical architectures, and historic street zones has been blended into modern urban space. History and culture are the heritages of men living in space and time. Ancient monuments themselves are fields and carriers with specific character. People experienced the change of time and space, and shared the glory of traditional culture and modern culture. Thus, this study reveals the activation and utilization of ancient monuments, together with its management. This research focuses on the Chinese quadrangle architecture of south Fujian civil department which is Qing dynasty Kinmen town general army department, and historic street QiaoHuiWuJiaoJi construction which is located in Mofan street, and the civil defense tunnel which was built in the military governed period. This study will give the thoughts of ancient monuments, historic architecture, activation and utilization of space, and the managements. I hope this study will provide some enlightened advices to public sector, architecture or urban designers to plan, activate, utilize and manage the traditional settlement in the future.
