Description
Summary:碩士 === 高雄醫學大學 === 天然藥物研究所 === 101 === Natural products containing a diversity of metabolites have been the most important source of leads for the development of drugs. The application of extracts from plants of the genus Alpinia plants also have been implicated in chemoprevention and chemotherapy given that their extracts exhibited strong anti-oxidant and anti-cancer activities. Alpinia nantoensis is a folk plant endemic to Taiwan but the information on bioactivities for its metabolites is limited so far. In this study, we assessed the effects of Alpinia nantoensis extracts on LPS-stimulated NO production in RAW 264.7 macrophages, and determined cytotoxicity and the cell migration and invasion of MDA-MB-231 cancer cell. In MDA-MB-231 cells, the half-maximal effective concentrations of Alpinia nantoensis extracts for cytotoxicity ranged from 28.13 to 58.04 μg/mL. The expression of phospho-AKT was markedly decreased in MDA-MB-231 cells treated with 3 crude extracts might be one of molecular mechanism underlying the anti-cancer activties. Our results showed the extract of A. nantoensis has low toxicity with high effectiveness and development potential to treating inflammatory or malignant diseases.
