There has a lot of studies about the association between betel quid and human. But the addiction to betel quid was not so clear, we want to know the factors affect betel addiction and the association between anxiety, happiness and physical activity in the study. Purpose 1. The factors affecting betel quid addictions were investigated. 2. The associations between betel quid addictions and anxiety and happiness were investigated. 3. The association between betel addictions and physical activity was investigated. Material and methods The total sample number was 523 and 103 and the response rate is 70.23% and 84.43% in Kaohsiung area and Pingtung aboriginal area, respectively. We used Population Proportionate to Size Sampling(PPS) to select the chewers who lived in Kaohsiung City and in three aboriginal areas of Pingtung in Taiwan. All participants were interviewed by trained interviewer, using the structured questionnaire. Results The chewers who had betel quid addiction were more likely to be male, be older, have lower or moderate education, be married, have lower income and works as a laborer. The correlates factors relating betel chewers are chewing more betel quids(aOR=1.1-1.6), starting chewing betel quid in earlier age(aOR=0.9-0.95), and chewing for a longer period(aOR=1.0-1.1). The chewers who were addicted to alcohol (aOR=16.4-143.1) and cigarette (aOR=16.5) were more likely to have betel quid addiction. Compare to non-addiction chewers, the chewers with a more severe level of addiction had higher anxiety scores, lower happiness scores and less physical activity. The difference in chewers between Kaohsiung area and Pingtung aboriginal area were found in demographic(p<0.001), chewing characteristics(p<0.001), smoking habits(p<0.001) ,the level of happiness(p<0.001) and the level of anxiety(p<0.001). Conclusions We found that betel addiction is related to certain demographic factors and chewing characteristics. There is an accompanied effect between betel addiction, alcohol addiction and cigarette addiction. Compare to non-addiction chewers, the chewers with a more severe level of addiction had higher anxiety scores, lower happiness scores and less physical activity. The affect areca addiction factors were different from different areas. Chien-Hung Lee 李建宏 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 99 zh-TW |

碩士 === 高雄醫學大學 === 公共衛生學研究所 === 101 === Background
Betel quid is the fourth psychoactive substance in the world. There has a lot of studies about the association between betel quid and human. But the addiction to betel quid was not so clear, we want to know the factors affect betel addiction and the association between anxiety, happiness and physical activity in the study.
Purpose
1. The factors affecting betel quid addictions were investigated.
2. The associations between betel quid addictions and anxiety and happiness were investigated.
3. The association between betel addictions and physical activity was investigated.
Material and methods
The total sample number was 523 and 103 and the response rate is 70.23% and 84.43% in Kaohsiung area and Pingtung aboriginal area, respectively. We used Population Proportionate to Size Sampling(PPS) to select the chewers who lived in Kaohsiung City and in three aboriginal areas of Pingtung in Taiwan. All participants were interviewed by trained interviewer, using the structured questionnaire.
Results
The chewers who had betel quid addiction were more likely to be male, be older, have lower or moderate education, be married, have lower income and works as a laborer.
Conclusions
We found that betel addiction is related to certain demographic factors and chewing characteristics.
