People, whatever their identities, social status and religions, will communicate with Taiwanese gods no matter they are ordinary or highly educated. And there is a proverb “The rituals of fortune telling is instruction to you from gods which will be good for children’s health and also extend life of elders…” which means instructions from gods can be obtained by rituals of fortune telling,and it is also an essential part of people’s lives.
As time goes by, the technology advances make people’s living today is much more convenient than ever, and the demands for creativity in livings are also become higher than before. The creation here is to apply interactive design on rituals of fortune telling in temples, which is to integrate digital interactive technology into rituals with combination of detection by sensor devices to replace the process that the traditional rituals must be completed in a specific space. Therefore, the public can experience the whole process described above without limitation of time and space, which will induce people’s interests on the rituals as well as communication with gods.
The interactive design as a whole is based on the context of the rituals, and the author tries to combine the main digital technique in the contemporary IT industry with the core spirits of cultures belonging to the most common Taiwanese people for creativity to generate the progressive cultural concept which is expected to promote the level of Taiwanese folk religions with multiple inspirations of technologies and visual aesthetics to shape a cross-cultural visual design of folk religions which is beyond time and space and across the traditional framework. And the author also hopes to provide people with reflection of recognition for our own traditional cultures through the demonstration of the process and development of this creation.
