All of these are inspired and influenced by Zen Buddihism. In Japan, Zen has been penetrated in daily life; in Western, Zen is always mentioned during researching oriental culture, therefore, Zen is as good as the essence of the oriental culture. The vase is used for flowers, and also taken as decoration or art collection. If the interest and charm of Zen reflects on the vase, it has its own unique style and content. In addition to the Chinese culture and art expression, it also has aesthetic and self cultivation function. Currently, there are related studies of religion, philosophy, literature, poetry, painting, tea art and architecture to Zen in Taiwan; however, Zen is less used in the study of industrial design. Thus, this study will go deep into Zen and will take the form of vase as an object to find out the image of the Zen style. This study intends to implant Zen style on the form of vase and to take simple vase shape as study object, the visual image of the Zen style as product quality and the engineering concept of the Taguchi quality as reference to explore the image optimization of the design and to ensure the parameters change of the form features could cause the emotional change. Too many kinds of vase shapes are in the world, but my study only focuses on the arc symmetrical vase. This study will define parameters of the form feature with drawing curves in 13 factors, and then build the parametric design model of the vase. Experimental planning is based on the orthogonal array L27(313). These parameters data in graphics 3D software of computer output a picture. The subjects will ask for processing the image assessment of the semantic differential analysis. Use the concept of the signal to noise ratio (S/N ratio) can get the best parameter combination of the form feature for the image style. With this upgraded combination, the basic database of the Zen meaning inside can be established. Finally, according to the analysis of variance, we can get the key parameter, adjust its data or integrate the different styles to offer diverse design samples. The designers have more references and options to build and adjust the vase image quickly, and can master the whole detail style changes to get their perfect product design. The result of the study shows that Taguchi method can help designers master their product design quality definitely and build their image style quickly in quality and in quantity.
