碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 跨文化研究所翻譯學碩士班 === 101 === Gideon Toury, the promoter of Descriptive Translation Studies, campaigned for the truthful description of translational activities. Having observed "Transcreation" as a common concept and phenomenon which is employed in the industry sectors yet remaining largely unknown to academia, I find it appropriate and timely that scholarly attention be paid to such an industry practice. This thesis is an endeavor to achieve the following objectives: (a) to document the wide applicability and history of transcreation through literature review; (b) to unveil another industry sector that practices translation by interviewing the Dubbing Associate Director of Taiwan Cartoon Network and conducting a text analysis of Adventure Time; (c) to define transcreation and identify its characteristics, essential elements and limits; (d) to bring transcreation to the academic arena by identifying the similarities between transcreation and translation studies.
