A major goal is to maintain health and promote successful aging, and to prevent or delay the onset of chronic disease. The risk of several diseases common in old age is highly associated with dietary habits and nutritional status. Nutrition education and counseling are clearly necessary in assisting elderly to the aware of the latest nutrition information and applying it to their individual life. The purposes of the study were to improve nutrition status and dietary behavior for the elderly in the community, and to evaluate the effectiveness of a nutrition education program provided with the online health promotion program. We cooperated with Professor Hsing Mei from the Department of Computer Science & Information Engineering in Fu Jen University, who designed an online health promotion platform “Joyful Health Space” (J.H.S). We provided the nutritional education program and the content of nutrition and health promotion on J.H.S for the elderly in the community. We invited seniors from Xinzhuang and Banqiao Senior Learning Centers and assigned them to intervention group and control group, respectively. Both groups completed the nutrition education programs designed on the bases of Health Belief Model and Theory of Reasoned Action. The intervention group had the access to JHS. The influence of nutritional education program and “Joyful Health Space” on nutrition knowledge, attitude and behavior (KAP) was evaluated by questionnaire. The pre-test, post-test and follow-up test were conducted one week prior to the study, one week after the experiment, and one month later, respectively. Intervention and control groups had similar scores of dietary habits nutrition knowledge, attitude, and the self-efficacy at the beginning of the study. Both groups of elderly had significant improvement in their dietary habits, nutrition knowledge and attitude. The nutrition behavior and self-efficacy scores of intervention group significantly increased at the end of the study. The elderly of intervention group reported high interest about the online health promotion platform J.H.S and consider it useful and helpful in gathering nutrition and health information. In conclusion, our 10-week nutrition education program may improve the dietary habit, nutrition knowledge, attitude, behavior and self-efficacy of elderly. The information provided through the online platform may further enhance their health diet and life style behavior Feili Lo Yang 駱菲莉 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 176 zh-TW
