| Summary: | 碩士 === 輔仁大學 === 應用美術學系碩士班 === 101 === This study focuses on the application of personality to character design. Personal behaviors and reactions represent our personality which influenced by innate genetic and acquired environment. Studier tries to find the elements of character design by discussing different character types of story and character shapes and color applications.
According to literature review and case studies, studiers found that characters can be divided into three categories - “Protagonist”, “Obstructionist” and “Helper”. Protagonist divides into “Hero-type” and “General-type” by characters’ functions. Obstructionist divides into “Evil-type” and “Disrupt-type” by characters’ acts. According to the similarities and differences of personalities, helper can be divided into “Contrast-type” and “ Normal-type”. Studier induces seven character types by their personalities and shapes from those three character categories, namely - “Positive and Aggressive-type”, “Calm and Stable-type”, “Naive and Romantic-type”, “Introverted and Eccentric-type”, “Sinister and Evil-type”, “Rude and Impetuous-type” and “Sharp and Cunning-type”.
Finally, using hand-draw and computer graphics to create five different kinds of characters and a picture book with their stories. In addition to using the househusband family structure - woman goes out and man stays home, studier also arranges two witches as important roles in the story to highlight the improving of female status.
After this study, the studier realizes that creating a unique and distinctive character should give it a complete and deep personality, and the shape should be designed appropriate for its position in the story.
