We explore deeper into the novel implications inherent in the myth from various viewpoints, starting from the background of the author and the social and political situation in Mexico during the 90s. Broadly speaking, the term "the search of identity" in this article is mainly defined as "to find his father", its definition can be extended to national and cultural identity level, and this issue is also closely related with Mexico’s the social and political situation. Therefore, throughout the history, culture and political background, we can more deeply understand the abandoned ghost village Comala portrayed by Rulfo, which is silent and murmurous at the same time. It is also the entrance of inferno, a village with stifling heat, from here the the protagonist began the journey to find his biological father, where is also a dreaming homeland of his mother. The main motivation that makes him to embark on the journey appears to be for the completion of the mother's last wish before dying, but for Juan, this journey of search symbolizes the yearning of pursuing after the origin and identity. This distinctive theme is already clarified in the first sentence of the novel and it is also reflects the presence of the classical myth of the theme: "looking for the father". This research mainly focuses on the interpretation of mythical theory by Carlos Fuentes and Martin Lienhard. And we research further into the whole structure of the novel, there is not only the existence of Greek mythology, and additionally there is Mexican myth factor. This rich mythological manifestation demonstrates completely in this classical work of Rulfo. Miguel Ángel González Chandía 耿哲磊 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 169
