The research purpose aimed to understand the correlation between the individual background variables, the participation motivation and work satisfaction in Tzu Chi volunteers. The study adopted self-designed questionnaire survey to conduct data collection. For data statistics, the study applied descriptive statistics, factor analysis, credibility analysis, validity analysis, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Pearson product-moment correlation for analysis. The study showed that the Tzu Chi volunteers in TaoyuanCounty demonstrated high level of participation motivation and work satisfaction. Among the individual background variables in Tzu Chi volunteers, the holding of religion or belief revealed significant difference in constitutes such as “Social Responsibility and Agency Characteristics” and “Total Participation motivation” for participation motivations and “Intrinsic satisfaction” and “Total work satisfaction” for work satisfaction. Nonetheless, variables such as gender, age, occupation, education, marital status, personal average monthly income, and volunteer seniority did not show significant difference on the participation motivation and work satisfaction. There was a significantly positive correlation between the participation motivation and work satisfaction for Tzu Chi volunteers; in other words, higher participation motivation in Tzu Chi volunteers tended to lead to higher work satisfaction for volunteers. Finally, the study recommends that Tzu Chi Foundation should encourage the retired persons and seniors to pass on their experience and wisdom by cooperating with schools and educational agencies, promoting promote service learning curriculum, emphasizing on human resource management, recruiting participation from all social elites from all rankings, in addition to routinely organizing educational training and providing self-enrichment opportunities.
