The illumination intensity of the backlight modules was measured by illuminometer. According to carefully study and analysis, and compared with the microstructure of the light guide plate of backlight modules, we design a set of microstructures of the light guide plate. The optical efficiency and uniformity of the light guide plate were improved after the comparison between actual measured results and the simulation results. The major parts of the design, including the various shape, size, distance and quantity of scatterers, are appeared in the light guide plate. The designed microstructures were arranged in the different places of light guide plate. These microstructures were used to adjust the path of light within the light guide plate so as to produce the effect of refraction and total internal reflection. It can provide uniform and sufficient brightness of the optoelectronic components. In this study, it was found that the FRED optical software can effectively design an optimized microstructure, so that the light guide plate to achieve uniform light extraction efficiency and improve the brightness.
