Lots of literatures confirm that mammography screening regularly can reduce the mortality rate of breast cancer. The purpose of this study was to investigate the behavior intention of undergoing breast cancer screening for women in the middle Taiwan area by applying the theory of planned behavior (TPB). A convenient sampling was proformed in this research. The study places were in the parks and workplaces. Three hundred twenty one questionnaires were valid. The research plan was permitted by the Instutional Review Board (IRB). Then, each subject was asked to sign a letter of consent. The collected copies were analyzed by the SPSS version 17.0 for Windows software. The results were found that (1)The attitude (AT), subjective norm (SN), and perceived behavioral control (PBC) for women’s accepting breast cancer screening had positive relations with behavior intention (BI) each other (p<.01). There were multiple close correlations between AT and behavior beliefs × evaluation of outcome (r=0.545); between SN and normative belief × motivation to comply (r=0.596); between PBC and control beliefs × perceived power (r=0.534). (2)The AT, SN, and PBC of women’s accepting breast cancer screening had significant forecast effect on BI. The TPB explained 32.3% of variance in BI. It meant that women had the more positive AT, SN, and PBC, they had the stronger BI in the breast cancer screening. And age and past experience of breast cancer screening had significant difference with BI (p<.05), but both had no forecast effect on BI. (3)The results in this study supported that the TPB could effectually apply to forecast and explain the women’s BI. The effectual factors of women’s BI to accept breast cancer screening were AT, SN, and PBC. It is expected that the findings in this study can be helpful to make reference for improving current implementing conditions in breast cancer screening.
