Since 2001, many large financial companies in Taiwan have transformed into a financial holdings company. By Dec 31st, 2012, a total of 16 financial holdings companies has been established. The 2008 financial storm caused tremendous impact on the financial industry in all nations. Therefore, this study centered on the effect of the financial storm to investigate the relative strengths of 10 banks affiliated with financial holdings companies and 13 independent banks during 2006~2012 and used CAELSG standards adopted by Central Bank of the Republic of China to compare the business performance between these firms in the seven-year period, and before, during, and after the storm, respectively. The main findings were as follows: (1) Banks affiliated with financial banking companies tended to have more stable behavior and growth and also comply with international standards on capital adequacy ratio compared to independent banks. (2) Although banks affiliated with financial banking companies had a higher average warranted rate of growth compared to independent banks, only a few of them had a high individual warranted rate of growth, and all the rest banks had a negative and declining warranted rate of growth. (3) Banks affiliated with financial banking companies were less affected by the financial storm and quicker to recover from the storm. They had better strengths in stability and adequacy than independent banks. Keywords: financial performance, financial storm, CAELSG standards 蔡雪惠 2013 學位論文 ; thesis 52 zh-TW
