Summary: | 碩士 === 長榮大學 === 翻譯學系碩士在職專班 === 101 === The aim of the thesis is to research and compare the differences between two Chinese translations of Moby Dick.Moby Dick, written by Herman Melville in 1851. This classic plays an important role in the development of literature in the world. In this research, the author not only compares the two Chinese translations but explores the central idea of Moby Dick. This thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter deals with the motive, the purpose, and the methodology. The second chapter is the introduction to the author and contents of Moby Dick. The third and fourth chapters search through examples of translation analysis what would be the best skills a translator must obtain in order to do his or her job ideally from the view points of domestication and foreignization.In addition, the thesis also research the accuracy of translation and proper names from the perspectives of fidelity, fluency, eleganceand others proposed by Yen Fu. The last chapter provides the author’s suggestions and findings of Moby Dick. The author hopes this thesis will be helpful for those who are interested in the literary translation,especially novels.
