Summary: | 碩士 === 長榮大學 === 翻譯學系碩士班 === 101 === Legal drama television series involve many legal terminologies and knowledge that cause over-translations, under-translations, mistranslations, and distorted translations in subtitles, making it difficult for audience to immediately receive the information from the drama. In this research, the Chinese subtitles of Drop Dead Diva, a popular legal drama television series, are selected to be analyzed. Besides, Dynamic Equivalence theory of Eugene A. Nida and Domestication and Foreignization theories of Lawrence Venuti will be employed to solve the abovementioned problems in translating subtitles of legal drama television series. In addition, different translation strategies, such as Omission, Addition, Direct Translation and Official Equivalent, will be used as ways to examine subtitle translation in this research. This research concludes that domestication and generalization are acceptable strategies in subtitle translation which generate understandable text for audience.
