Statistics from the Annual Reports of Labor Inspection Yuan indicated that the three industries most prone to slipping accidents were manufacturing, food &; beverage and retailIn this study, we will therefore analyze the floor slip resistance and slipping risks in these three industries. The Brungraber Mark II slip tester was used for conducting on-site measurements at 53 different businesses. Descriptive statistical and analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed in business units to examine the different between measurement areas among different workplaces. The results showed that out of the three industries, the the average coefficient of friction (COF) dinning was lowest in the retail industry (0.31) and highest in the food &; beverage industry (0.53). In the manufacturing industry, average COF was the lowest in electronics factories (0.42) and the highest in metal processing factories (0.52). In the food &; beverage industry, average COF was the lowest in Chinese style restaurants (0.44) and the highest in fast food stores (0.6). In the retail industry, average COF was lowest in seafood markets (0.14) and highest in chain supermarkets (0.46). Recommendations on the prevention of slipping and falling were discussed.
