Summary: | 碩士 === 長庚大學 === 機械工程學系 === 101 === Dimensionally stable Electrode (DSE) were prepared by means of thermal decomposition of a precursor solution containing Ir and Ta on a pure titanium substrate. Thermal decomposition for DSE specimens was performed at 450oC with different precursor painting method, and a stainless-steel fixture from which DSE specimens with different degrees of oxidation could be prepared. After thermal decomposition, the performance lives of DSE were galvanostatically evaluated in the 1 M H2SO4 solution and their microstructures were studied with x-ray diffraction, field-emission scanning and transmission electron microscopes.
Experimental results show that the performance of a IrO2-Ta2O5 coating on a Ti substrate depends strongly on its oxidation degree. According to the results, three kinds of DSE were prepared; namely, over-oxidised, incompletely and completely oxidised DSE. The appearance of a completely oxidised DSE was visually brightening; while a grey-black appearance was seen from an incompletely oxidised DSE. An ash-like coating was detected from an over-oxidised DSE which cannot be used for application. In spite of having high bonding strength, an amount of chloride content was detected from the incompletely oxidised DSE; Moreover, its performance life is ca. one third shorter than that of a completely oxidised DSE. The relation between microstructures and performance lives of prepared DSE will be discussed in this work.
