Shih Tso-Cheng in Taiwan is an alternative thinker. However, we will be admire and fascinated by his ideologies when contacting them. Shih Tso-Cheng has numerous and various works including philosophy, mathematics, scientist, anthropology, aesthetics, art and music. There are more than 50 works excluding his unpublished works.
He has been writing not only novels but poems and prose as well, but all his works are relative to his philosophy. His philosophic prose are major in his prose. In addition to the ideologies in his prose, the arrangement of words and the arrangement of chapters are quite different from mainstream prose. The unique performances make him special in literature and philosophy.
His history can be divided into three periods, represented by “Philosophical Fragments in March”, “Five Books after March” and “A Philosophical Survey of Rembrandt's Art Esthetics.” The periods stand for both the time period and Shih Tso-Cheng’s intellects and attitude of life. These periods also witness how a philosopher with critical thinking refines himself to explore the inner in solitary, concerns the society and the whole civilization and persuades the substance of being and nature by aesthetics and art.
Besides, Shih Tso-Cheng finds out the connection of philosophy and Taiwan. He deals with the philosophy in Taiwan. And by this chance, he checks the whole society in Taiwan that it cannot realize philosophy and critical thinking, causing the problem of incapability of realizing facts. For another, the author thinks that the reason why recently Taiwan attempts to deal with the independent issue but in vain is because the citizens are lack of the ability of realizing the problem. To simplify, Taiwan doesn’t contain its own philosophy and ideology.
By the discussion about Shih Tso-Cheng, the author attempts to classify the value, which a philosopher with critical thinking has persuade all his life and the investigation of substance of being and nature. Finally, with his creation, the author seeks to discuss the possibility of the philosophy in Taiwan.
