To reduce the green house effect, the green energy is developed quickly. The green energy such as solar, wind energy, hydrogen and fuel cells produce no pollution products. This study investigates a passive hybrid power system using a proton exchange membrane fuel cell and a secondary battery pack. The products of fuel cell are electricity, water and heat, which do not pollute the environment. The development of the fuel cell helps reduce the carbon oxide, the product of internal combustion engine. The hybrid system is divided into active systems and passive systems. This study emphasizes on the passive hybrid system. The fuel cell and secondary battery hybrid system is aimed to improve the system efficiency and protect fuel cell for longer life. Secondary battery has the characteristic of quick discharge, so it can support the fuel cell's slow response. Compared with the active system, the passive system uses less components and a simpler control strategy. It can reduce the energy loss, so the system will have higher efficiency and lower cost.
