Therefore, theft is and has always been the most concerned issue for the general public. Gauging how people percept toward safety usually takes theft crime rate as indicator. It is believed, that burglary can be prevented in advance. Burglary prevention inspection on residences is provided by all police departments nationwide. This research is using Chiayi city as object of study, focuses on the accomplishments and effectiveness of residential burglary prevention inspection and crime reduction. By using research findings on various facets to propose effective crime prevention strategy and recommendation, further to implement research results on actual crime prevention work, letting theory integrate with practical work to maximize academic research usefulness. This research employed questionnaires to both law enforcement officers and city residents. Analysis of returned samples discovered that the accomplishment of burglary prevention inspection was satisfactory and recognized by most city residents as well as law enforcement officers. Nevertheless, carrying out the inspection created additional workload burden on officers and sometimes the impression of disturbance on residents. Result of this research recommends an establishment of department with dedicated responsibility on burglary prevention. This department should take charge of burglary investigation and prevention to avoid victims having to report to different departments and generating subsequent complaints on the repetitive process. In the mean time, those residents only renting a place to stay in Chiayi city without setting up a housing record will create a gap in reinforcing the burglary prevention. It's recommended that law enforcement officers should set up a temporary resident record for those renting houses when they are doing routine household visit, in order to ensure a full coverage of burglary prevention.
