Although most of vehicles equip GPS receiver now, GPS may not work in many places such as tunnels. In this thesis, we proposed a GPS-less multicasting service for VANET, called Line Graph-Based Multicast (LGBM). LGBM is based on the location service provided by vehicles without GPS. In our system, a cluster of vehicles is modeled as a line graph according to their relative positions to provide location service for LGBM on an express way. With assistance of a road side unit and a motion detection scheme, vehicles construct a centralized cluster and maintain the line graph. Based on the line graph, LGBM can effectively select re-broadcasting vehicles to recover lost packets during multicasting to improve data delivery and avoid redundant data transmission.
