The main research questions explored in the study are: 1. “Did extrinsic and intrinsic motivation influence scores”? 2. “Did gender influence motivation”? The subjects were 120 Taiwanese students from vocational high school in Chiayi. The instruments used in this study were the self-edited language learning motivation likert scale. The data were analyzed by Descriptive Statistic, Correlation Analysis, One-way analysis anova, Regression Analysis, and Path Analysis. The major findings were as follows: (a).Instrumental motivation, gender and intrinsic motivation have significant correlation to grades for vocational high school students in Chiayi. . (b).The learning achievement of female students in Taiwan has significant difference in intrinsic motivation.
