Facing global competition and financial tsunami, every country puts more emphasis on manufacturing as a substantial economy. In addition to coping with the trend of diversified products and a short life cycle, excellent flexibility in delivery and efficiency are also required. As a result, assurance of the quality of products or the efficiency of dealing with quality nonconformity has become one of the critical capacities that each proprietor should have to keep his/her competitiveness. TRIZ is a term used for a theory for solving inventive problems in Russian, which can be applied to enterprises of all sizes as well as to various technical dimensions. The Quality Assurance Department of a certain precise machinery company in central Taiwan was the object of study in this research and their current flow of dealing with quality nonconformity was examined for improvement, if any. The approach of TRIZ was served as the basis and the root cause of quality nonconformity was located by substance-field analysis. All possible solutions to the problem were derived from the contradiction matrix constituted with the engineering parameters and evaluated by comparing with the inventive principles for effective improvement in quality. A new flow for coping with quality nonconformity was constructed in a systematic way to provide an innovative and fast problem-solving way and reduce time and cost required for nonconformity elimination.
