Summary: | 碩士 === 國立雲林科技大學 === 工業工程與管理研究所碩士班 === 100 === As the technologies for mobile communications are well developed, all famous brands of cell phone manufacturers ask their engineers to make continuous innovations and R&Ds to attract potential clients, meet customer requirements and increase their sales of cell phones. Consequently, the life cycle of mobile phone products is getting shorter and shorter. Cell phones of new models are usually on the market for less than half a year and those with more advanced specifications are launched. Under keen competition on the end market, the upstream manufacturers that produce component parts related to cell phones confront the difficulties that customers require to shorten delivery and ask to maintain a certain manufacturing level. For survival, manufacturers begin to think about how to further enhance the quality of their products.
Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) is an approach to analyze the causes of potential product failures in advance and to propose prevention measures, which may not only reduce the risk of product failures, but also prevent waste of costs resulted from the subsequent effects. Molding of plastic shells for cell phones is studied in this research by applying the FMEA approach to mold design and manufacturing process. The FMEA project members analyze potential failures and their causes during mass production of injection molding, compute the risk priority number (RPN) in accordance with the steps for implementing FMEA and then decide failures that need to be solved first and actions for improvement. The results of the research indicate the potential failure mode for molding can be found on the initial stage by applying FMEA to mold design and manufacturing process and then corrected to prevent necessary changes to complicated structural design and tremendous loss of costs in the subsequent phase of mass production. The objective of enhancing the quality of molds is thus achieved.
