A cross sectional study conducted among 150 nurses in intensive care unit of a medical center. Response rate was 96.7%. The study used a structural questionnaire developed by the researcher. Subjects of this study scored 69.5% correctness on nutritional knowledge test, with the lowest correct answer rate (60.0%) on questions related to the nutritional needs of the patients. The mean score for attitude was 80.6% of the total score, and the highest attitude score (88.0%) was in subjects regarding nutrition study. Mean score for nutritional practice was 77.9% of the total score. The score for practice related to nutrition study, nutrition support or feeding management were all lower than 80% of the respective subtotal score, with the exception of nutrition monitoring practice that was 82.7%. Positive correlation was found between attitude and practice. The knowledge was not significantly correlated with practice or attitude. However, the knowledge was positively correlated with practice related to nutrition study (r = .507, p <0.01). The knowledge of nutritional assessment was also found positively correlated with practice related to nutrition support(r = .084, p <.05) and nutrition monitoring(r = .084, p <.05). Results of this study indicated that the nutritional attitude of the nurses in the intensive care unit was good and their nutritional practice was fair. However, their nutritional knowledge was insufficient. Providing nutrition related in-service education course and seminar on a regular basis may be an effective way to improve the nutritional knowledge and strengthen the nutritional practice of nurses in intensive care unit.
