This research paper is to clarify my personal creative path, to analyze my concerns and to express my feelings while utilizing academic theories such as symbolism, surrealism, psychoanalysis-subconsciousness to examine the works’ level and attainment. Surrounded by various real life stresses, woodcut provides a channel for me to reconcile my emotional stress thus to achieve a state of balance, inner peace.
The purposes of this research paper are: 1) to probe my transformation process as to how my internal emotions were converted to the external presentation and became the force of the creations; 2) to analyze how I utilized the mimic Mezzotint collagraph to echo and to present my emotions externally; 3) to explain my creative ideas through the actual creations, to elucidate the sequence of the ideas and to explore the creations’ artistic value; 4) how I use diverse versions of combinations to express myself and to echo my feelings about the external world. The research methods of this paper consist of: 1) content analysis method; 2) action research method.
The structure of this paper includes: Chapter 1 which explains the motive and purpose of this research paper and its structure, scope, limitations and methods of research; Chapter 2 which holds literature reviews. It covers aesthetic theories on creation, art creation related genres and artists'' influences on creation; Chapter 3 which entails an examination of meanings that the creations were trying to convey and an analysis of the forms and language the creations had utilized; Chapter 4 which examines the artistic ideas behind the creations; Chapter 5 which reviews the process of writing this research paper, discusses what I have learned during the process and concludes the paper with possible areas for future research.
The art creation, woodcut is a means for me to express my personal feelings about the external world. I intend to free my personal feelings through the process of woodcut creation and to obtain my personal spiritual redemption. Hopefully, I can distill the emotions that lurk in my subconscious into art.
