Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺北藝術大學 === 藝術與人文教育研究所 === 100 === This action research is to evaluate the feasibility of using the visual arts curriculum to enhance "respect" and "being responsible" characters of the seventh grade students. We design the teaching materials that employ the idea of “picture books” as the main theme of the visual arts classes. Students are divided into groups and work together to create storylines around the core values of personal characters mentioned above. Through the activities of creating themes, collaborating with peers, and impersonating characters for the story, we study how these experiences affect students in establishing moral values and how these experiences help to correct their behaviors in daily life.
Students participating in this study are in my class, and the action research is conducted within a period of eight weeks. The progress of students is observed through behavior records, interviews, learning sheets, feedback sheets, instructor’s daily log. Then we analyze and interpret the above information in a systematic way.
The main conclusions are the following:
Ⅰ. It is feasible to incorporate the idea of picture books in classes to enhance moral values of seventh grade students.
Ⅱ. Through the activities of designing picture books, we show the improvement of behaviors of mutual-respect and self-respect of seventh grade students.
Ⅲ. Through the activities of designing picture books, the seventh grade students also show a dramatic improvement in the behaviors of being responsible.
Finally, based on the results of current study, we make suggestions for future works that employ the idea of learning moral values through designing picture books.
