Although largely un-priced and thus absent in economic analyses, natural resources, such as soil, water, air, forest, and oceans provide essential functions and hence must be viewed as an integral part of our economic system. We must avoid the illusion that market economics, alone makes the world go around, that technology will solve our environmental messes. By 1970 there was serious concern that the changes in the atmosphere were enough to change climate globally. It is to realize that despite our sophisticated technologies and complex international economies, we still need to eat, drink, and breathe and that we depend on natural resources to provide the food, water, air, and climate to do so. The common shortsighted view sees economics and ecology as incompatible, when, in fact, these two disciplines must join forces if humans are to continue to prosper. Knowing what needs to be done from an ecological perspective, however, is not enough. Proper economic analyses and policies are also needed to help provide incentives for designing and implementing those solutions. The combined skills of technologists, economists, and ecologists are needed to seek new approaches that might qualify as sustainable management of natural resources. In recent years, Taiwan used “Sustainable Taiwan Evaluation System” to evaluate its own sustainable condition every year in order to have suatainable development to be done right. Based on Taiwan's situation and took sustainable development ideals from United Nations as a reference, Executive Yuan declaimed “Sustainable Development Policy Programme” as a development guide for Taiwan's future and expect a sustainable environment.
