“Chinese orchestras developed from schools “are the most vibrant and active groups among the Chinese Orchestra teams apart from the professionals. They have grown in the history of Taiwan Chinese Orchestra for nearly ten years. Many brilliant Chinese Orchestra artists were originally from “School Chinese Orchestras”. Elementary school is the cradle that cultivates most talented Chinese orchestra musicians in this field because they attract all different musicians to invest in the children talented in Chinese music. Those schools work as a fundamental base that develops Chinese orchestra as it also has much influence on each individual musician interested in Chinese orchestra that leads him or her to either professional or vocational development in public. Moreover, elementary school obviously plays a key role that trains a lot of talented children that are able to continue their music life in high school or even college.
In the most documents that describe Chinese orchestra development, more and more discussions or studies have been made about the development of school Chinese orchestra, especially on the factors that impact on the development. Studying these factors helps us understand the difficulty and issues of promoting Chinese orchestra and music, and their talent cultivation, and leads us to recognize the value of elementary school Chinese orchestra. As a result of the endeavors and investment made by Chinese orchestra musicians, elementary school Chinese orchestras in Tainan City have produced outstanding performances. Therefore, these schools are taken as the object for study in this essay with the attempt to sustain and maintain the culture development of Chinese orchestra in Tainan City.
In this essay, the study starts from the analysis on the Chinese orchestra inner structure and extends to key components that compose the features of elementary school Chinese orchestra. On the other side, this study also touches on “culture localization” issue and its relationship with education policy that might affect the development environment of elementary school Chinese orchestra. Multiple perspectives are made on how those issues change the culture recognition on Chinese orchestra and its survival status. Meanwhile, more discussions are made on how we can reestablish the respect people should have for Chinese orchestra from the point of view of modern society.
Through the study in this essay, the issues of tradition and localization are hopefully able to be clarified and orientated in order to better define the position of elementary Chinese orchestra and its existence in Taiwan education system, which might be helpful for Chinese orchestra development in Tainan City.
