He not only plays the role of an art teacher, but he also gives sketch lessons after class. Moreover, Ishikawa creates his own textbook “A Book of Model Paintings during Extracurricular Time” to supplement the formal curriculum. This thesis focused on the spatial-temporal background of Ishikawa's teaching and the school he has taught during his second visit to Taiwan in order to explore his development history to Taiwan art education. The goal of the research is as follows :(1) Investigate the background of painting class of National Taipei Teacher’s College during the Japanese colonial time. (2) Compare the differences of teaching contents and objectives in “Public School's Picture Books ” and “A Book of Model Paintings during Extracurricular Time.”(3)Analyze Ishikawa's role as an art teacher and his influence upon Taiwan visual art education. This research is aimed at “A Book of Model Paintings during Extracurricular Time.” By examining carefully the editoral background, motive and content of this book, the researcher uses art-history-research and analytical research as research methods to understand the influence of Ishikawa during his second visit to Taiwan. The conclusion is as follows: (1) After the “ Taiwan Education Law” was enforced in 1922, Teacher’s College started to share the same school system as Japan. A lot of subjects were being taught at the same time, thus the painting course was restricted to time and content and many students took part in the outdoor sketching class during extracurricular time which was predominated by Ishikawa. (2) While Ishikawa came to Taiwan for the second time as a role of an art teacher in Taiwan school, he soon came to realize the lack of teaching time and formal curriculum contents, so he created his own textbook “A Book of Model Paintings during Extracurricular Time,” as supplementary teaching materials. (3) Ishikawa’s second visit to Taiwan as an art teacher in Taiwan school had built up the art teaching system in Taiwan. He has made efforts for the teaching materials and methods of Taiwan art education and since then, the art education in Taiwan starts to grow. According to the conclusion drew from above, the researcher suggested that the Ministry of Education nowadays in Taiwan should put more emphasis on the curriculum design and a professional training and development for teachers and a better evaluation of teaching quality. Therefore the art education in Taiwan which had been contributed by the enthusiastic Ishikawa, despite being a foreign art teacher and colonialist, can be improved and enriched toward an excellent one in the 21st century.
