The internal and external factors which may affect their participation in the most preferred activities were also analyzed. A total of 119 students with autism participated in the study. All of the participants were 1 to 6 graders in elementary schools in Taipei City. “The Leisure Assessment Inventory”, a self-developed instrument was used for the participants to self-report their background information, leisure activities and leisure motivation. The inventory was the primary tool for data collection in the study. Descriptive, t-test and ANOVA statistic method were used in this study. The following results were found: 1. Mothers of the students with autism are the major participants in their children’s leisure activities. As for leisure time, the families spent mostly 0 to 1 hours every day during weekdays, while holidays take up mostly 4 to 6 hours. 2. The result shows that the leisure activities students engage in mostly are going to the mall, going out for meals, playing toys, and watching TV. 3. The result of parents' choice of leisure activities indicate that the competence-mastery motivation to be stronger than the intellectual motivation, social motivation, and stimulus avoidance motivation. 4. The significant variations was found at the general performance of elementary school students with autism leisure activities on the different backgrounds of family types, disability severity, class, socioeconomic status and family monthly income. 5. The significant variation was found at the general performance of elementary school students with autism leisure motivation on the different backgrounds of mothers' education level and family monthly income.
