Architect and Engineers used to utilize 2D shop drawings as construction communication reference. However, there are still some problems in the 2D shop drawings in practice during the construction phase. Using BIM approach, users can get an overview of 3D BIM models and take appropriate advanced discussion through 2D bard code and proposed system. This research is a pilot study to develop a generic model using 3D BIM models and system integrated 2D barcode for construction 2D shop drawings management, analyzing and discussing the BIM implementation status for construction projects. This study addresses application of BIM for 2D shop drawings in the construction phase of the construction project and proposes a Construction BIM-based 2D Shop Drawing Management concept and system for general contractors. Furthermore, the proposed system is will applied in selected real case study of a commerce building in Taiwan to demonstrate the effectiveness of 3D BIM-based drawing management integrated with BIM and 2D bard code.
