Summary: | 碩士 === 東海大學 === 建築學系 === 100 === As orchid-growing becomes a popular practice worldwide, once an interest of the amateur during free time, orchids today have become a developing commodity with potential in international market. Following the tremendous expansion of orchid industry, mass production is required in order to meet the demands, thus under such circumstance, many environmental control systems for greenhouse were developed simultaneously to cultivate orchid seedlings. Since orchids are extremely sensitive to environment, the greenhouse must be equipped with supplies like water cooling pad, shade net, air conditioner et cetera. Cultivating in a closed environment that can be fully automatically controlled, the orchid industry has converted into industrial from traditional agriculture. The development of greenhouse surely guarantees men’s control over crop’s productivity; nonetheless, it is also a barricade that deprives crops of proper plant-nature relationships. Furthermore, the result of mass production and commercialization of orchids, after the demand and supply chain has been established, is the lack of understanding that lead to large disposal of the plant by common people, which unfortunately concludes its economic value at the consumption level.
Re-evaluating the structure and space construction of the greenhouse, trying to break away from current confined space design, and constructing a brand new lighting, cooling, as well as watering control systems that allow nature elements to be reintroduced to the orchid-growing environment, an architecture system that would switch artificial with natural interface and change the relationship of beings and flowers.
Famous for its floriculture, Puli, located in Nantou Taiwan, possesses the necessary geography and industry criteria, by integrating the county’s rich tourism resources, environmental and geographical advantage, to develop a new pattern for orchid greenhouse and the industry that includes cultivation, tourism, culture, education and commercial activity. Seeking to create a unique spatial experience and cultural landscape, and by which, to achieve the ultimate purpose of maximizing the economical benefits out of both domestic and foreign tourism.
The purpose of this thesis is to discuss how to establish a new experience economy, a design that supports life-sustaining cycle, and a switch between artificial and natural interface, in already well-developed and industrialized floriculture commerce.
