Abstract
The research method employed by this study is distributing questionnaires.
The subjects are students in Tainan city. A total of 503 questionnaires were mailed out in a cluster sampling way, of which 503 were completed and considered as valid questionnaires. Data collected through questionnaires was analyzed by percentage frequently distribution, T-test, one-way ANOVA, Product-Moment Correlation, and Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis to provide evidence in support of the hypothesis.
The results of the research are as follows:
(1) Factors affecting the frequency of participating in family leisure activities were ranked by importance as “ entertainment-oriented”, ” social contacts-oriented” ,”hobby-oriented” and “ sports-oriented .“ Students span diverse learning phrases take different attitudes to family leisure activities. In the category of gender of students, there is significant difference in“ sports-oriented “, ”hobby-oriented” and ” social contacts-oriented” leisure activities.
(2) Factors affecting family leisure motivations were ranked by importance as” social contacts-oriented”, “stimulus avoidance-oriented”, “competence mastery-oriented” and “intelligence-oriented.” The study also shows that overall students have high leisure motivations. In the category of gender of students, there is significant difference only in ” social contacts-oriented” dimension. Students’ parents with different academic, economic and educational backgrounds showed significant difference in leisure motivations.
(3)Overall, students have lower leisure constraints. Factors affecting leisure constraints were ranked by importance as " structural constraints ", " interpersonal constraints " , and " intrapersonal constraints ." Students with different genders and learning phrases have different leisure constraints.
(4) There are partially significant correlations between family leisure activities and family leisure motivations among students in elementary schools, junior high and senior high schools.
(5)“Competence mastery”, “stimulus avoidance” and ” social contacts” are three important variables in the category of family leisure activities on leisure motivation scales, which can predict 95.8% family leisure activities.
According to the results of this research, the researcher brings up some concrete suggestions to be referenced for schools, the administrative authorities of education, and parents as well as to be used for further studies.
