Description
Summary:碩士 === 慈濟大學 === 護理學系碩士班 === 100 === Nearly one-third of the general population has experienced sleep problems. Long-term lack of sleep or poor sleep quality can cause harm to health, especially women have more sleep impairment than men. There is limited research investigating the relationships between women with sleep apnea syndrome and sleep quality. This study aimed to explore the demographic characteristics of women with sleep apnea syndrome in relation to different severity levels of the diseases, and the associations of daytime sleepiness and menopause related to subjective and objective sleep quality. This study used a cross-sectional and retrospective design. Hospital records of patients treated during January 31, 2007 to January 31, 2012 in a sleep centre from an eastern hospital in Taiwan were collected and analyzed. Exclusion criteria were men, uncompleted questionnaires, patients who had repeated examinations and less than 18 years old. A total of 179 female patients were included in the study. Data were analyzed using SPSS 19.0. Descriptive statistics and inferential statistics were conducted according to the research objectives and the variable types, including independent samples t-test, chi-square test, and one-factor ANOVA. The results showed that, 55% suffered from sleep apnea syndrome among 179 female patients with sleep disorders. For those with sleep apnea syndrome, 35% also had daytime sleepiness. Age, body mass index, neck circumference, waist circumference, menopause, hypertension and diabetes mellitus were factors related to women with sleep apnea syndrome.According to the severity levels of the disease, patients with the serve level of sleep apnea syndrome had the poorer objective sleep quality. Patients with menopause had the poorer objective sleep quality than those with premenopausal. In addition, there is no difference in objective sleep quality between patients with or without daytime sleepiness. There are no significant differences in subjective sleep quality in relation to severity levels of the disease, premenopausal or menopause, and daytime sleepiness. The study results can help clinical staff understand the demographic characteristics of female patients with sleep apnea syndrome and the factors related to sleep quality.
