Summary: | 碩士 === 慈濟大學 === 教育研究所 === 100 === Tzu Chi Senior High School stresses to correct the moral character of students by humanistic education. The researcher agrees with the ideas of Master Cheng Yen but also worries about the difficulties of correcting the present educational atmosphere of the school, hoping the public can learn more about Master Cheng Yen’s ideas on school education and making a contribution to education by this study.
The study is a qualitative research. It takes literature analysis method to analyze the connotation of Master Cheng Yen’s ideas on school education. Taking Tainan Tzu Chi Senior High School as an example, the study explores the implementation of Master Cheng Yen’s ideas on curricula and activities through participant observation method. By in-depth interview, the researcher analyzes the inspiration and influence made by Master Cheng Yen’s ideas on parents, teachers and students of Tainan Tzu Chi Senior High School.

Master Cheng Yen’s ideas on school education
The school education takes Kindness, Compassion, Joy and Equanimity as the school motto and creates the school educational model with the holistic education of both wisdom and virtue.
The school educational methods are based on the three-rail guidance system, the operation of Tze Chi Teachers Sodality and the implementation of the Jingsi Quotations of Master Cheng Yen in curricula design and teaching activities to create the educational characteristics.
To make students understand courtesy from life education so as to make them learn gratitude, respect and love.
To make students understand life value from life education so as to make them express their life potential.
To rebuild humanistic spirit with moral education, making students return to the pure and tranquil nature to achieve the goal of purifying human conscience
Students should learn how to behave well from school education and possess basic humanistic quality.
Teachers should hold the principle to be a good teacher, determine to be a teacher and inspire wisdom and life to set a good learning model for students.
Inspiration of Master Cheng Yen’s ideas on school education on educators
To obey the educational idea of People First, stress “Learn from Practice and Learn from Study” and teach the spirit of “Tze Chi Humanity”
To implement the life education of “Restrict self and return to propriety” and “Diligent, Thrifty and Fearless of Difficulties” from “Travel, Accommodation, Sitting and Sleeping”.
Educators should set a good example in moral quality for students and teach students to be an educated and intelligent people.
Educational practice should combine with living education, life education and moral education.
Education is aimed to “teach students how to behave well but not pursue personal benefits”
Practical effects of Master Cheng Yen’s ideas on school education
To implement the ideas of “Learn from Practice and Learn from Study” in the humanistic educational curricula of Tze Chi Senior High School and promote service learning education and arrange volunteers service activity
To implement the life educational ideas of “Education is Life while Life is Education” and promote the activities of doing good works and filial behaviors.
To express the ideas of “show respect to life and educate life from life” and promote environmental-protection education and vegetarian activity.
Teachers actively use teaching methods of Jingsi Quotations of Master Cheng Yen to carry out the curricula teaching and activities. Moreover, teachers’ professional growth activities are combined to improve their humanistic quality.
The character education effects have won the confirmation of education department and social circles. Tainan Tze Chi Senior High School was hence granted as the Character Promotion and Excellent School.
