Summary:碩士 === 南台科技大學 === 應用英語系 === 100 === ABSTRACT This study investigated the motivation effects of LiveDVD self-learning on the ARCS model on the English ability of the students of Southen Taiwan University of Science and Technology. The participants filled in the questionnaire after they used LiveDVD for one semester. To test the model, the researcher collected a total of 527 copies of questionnaire as research samples. The reliability and validity was tested by using SPSS and AMOS, and the structural equation model was adopted to explore the relationship between research constructs. The results of this study were summarized as follows: 1. Participants possessed positive learning motivation toward LiveDVD self-learning. 2. Confidence of ARCS motivation model had a significant positive influence on self-evaluated skills; students with higher confidence tended to have higher self-rated English skills. 3. Participants with mid or low English proficiency had higher attention levels toward LiveDVD self-learning than high ability participants. 4. With respect to non-engineering majors, participants with mid or low English proficiency possessed higher levels of satisfaction toward LiveDVD self-learning. Based on the preceding findings, pedagogical implications and suggestions for further studies were provided to faciliate English teaching and learning in Taiwan.
