The focus of students studying product design has already transfer from learning hand rendering, the traditional way of sketching, to computer modeling. In order to accommodate this trend nowadays, some adjustments and changes should be made in terms of teaching sketch to students. The development of a sketch is significant in that it is a tool for creating ideas and building thoughts during the initial phase. In addition, designers use it to negotiate design details with clients or co-designers. Because of the reasons mentioned above, how to make the procedure of sketching more effective and efficient has become a topic that should be emphasized and valued in teaching sketch.
This study aimed to probe and prove the effectiveness of utilizing sketch stimulation training method of good design award products into sketch pedagogy. The experiment was processed by contrasting the learning results between two groups of students. Seven product design experts were responsible for conducting the evaluation of the students’ learning results. A questionnaire and interviews were also designed and executed for students to reflect their opinions toward their own learning situations. After analyzing and organizing the data of this study, the results showed that sketch stimulation training method of good design award products was remarkably effective in increasing the perspective of shapes, the stability of lines, and the extent of form presenting.
