Due to their relatively low cost, light weight, ease of manufacture, flexibility, and imperviousness to water and acid, plastics are used in an enormous and expanding range of products, from daily product to other utilities (such as military and spaceship program). In other hand to process that raw plastic material into other components is also important thing. Injection molding process has well-known also with high-rate production process and permits good dimensional control (It is because the material is molten when injected into the mold). The idea of this thesis came from the needs and actual problem that encountered in plastic injection molding of plastic product. There are main defect that always occur in plastic injection molding, shrinkage and warpage. Shrinkage and warpage are two of the problems which very often encountered in injection molding process. And one of solutions that can be applied in injection molding process is control some of parameters that will affect to minimize the shrinkage and warpage in the final product. This thesis is trying to present about eight parameters with three levels simulation that will be effected to minimize the shrinkage and warpage. There are filling time, injection pressure, injection rate (velocity), packing pressure, packing time, melt temperature, cooling temperature and mold temperature as the parameters that trying to be controlled in this research, with eyewear frame as an object case study. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) will be used to assist and analyze further more about the final product. Catia V5 will be used to design the product and then followed by Moldex 3D to analyze the warpage that’ll be occurred in simulation. With this simulation a quality of final product can be predicted before produce it with injection molding machine. Finally Taguchi method orthogonal array (L27 (38)) will be used to optimization all of that parameters in statistic issue to achieve a better product with minimize warpage with the combination of contribution in ANOVA analysis and also grey relationship analysis will be used to optimize the multiple characteristic.
