DWT (Discrete Wavelet Transform) can be considered as a multi-resolution signal analysis, which decomposes a signal into its components in different frequency bands. Then, using EZW (Embedded Zerotree Wavelet) technology with bit encoding to obtain superior properties like compression ratio, progressive transmission, coding-length-control and fault tolerance, So to obtain high quality factors (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio, PSNR) and high compression rate (Compression Ratio, CR). In this paper, the coding combining lifting-based DWT, which adopts mirror compensation, with Embedded Zerotree Wavelet (EZW) transform is implemented in an Xscale270 ARM-based platform. The original source image is first divided into several blocks, each with 8*8 pixels. Then the data of each block is transmitted to the Altera Cyclone EP1C6Q240C8 chip, in which the coding, Lifting-based DWT and EZW, is performed. Finally, the coded symbols are transmitted back.
