Description
Summary:碩士 === 南台科技大學 === 財務金融系 === 100 === In recent years, credit card use and ownership have expanded around the globe substantially. With the benefit of credit card as a new innovation, credit card has become a vital payment method for consumers all over the world and the number of credit card usage has grown exponentially in both developed and developing countries (Scott, 2007). Credit card ownerships have increased considerably over the past decades, and credit card service has become one of the most remunerative financial services (Kaynak and Harcar, 2001; Goyal, 2006). In this study, the demographics and socio-economic characteristics of the card holders; the consumer behavior and awareness of credit card were investigated in Vietnam. The purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between the demographics, socio-economic characteristics and credit card ownership and usage. Moreover, the investigation of consumer behavior and awareness towards credit card ownership and usage makes contribution to develop the credit card providers or issuers in a more efficient and modern manner. Data for the study were collected from 592 credit cardholders and 342 non-cardholders in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh cities – two of the largest cities in Vietnam. The Probit model and Ordered Probit model were used in this study. It was found that the demographic and socio-economic characteristics have significant impacts on the credit card ownership and usage. The benefits of credit card were found to have positive significant impacts on the credit card usage. In concern to the awareness, high debt ceiling, longer usage or more frequent usage respondents are more likely to understand the credit card bill than the otherwise. It was also found that the respondents who pay the full balance every month are inclined to understand the credit card bill.
